About the School
The University of Rheinsberg's School of Agriculture has a long-standing tradition of agricultural and academic excellence. The School of Agriculture provides students with more than a degree; it gives them a true education through hands-on experiences and its knowledgeable faculty. Students in the School of Agriculture receive a large university education in a small school setting. We extend a warm welcome to the School of Agriculture.
Finding sustainable food and energy sources for billions of people is a massive job. But at the University of Rheinsberg School of Agriculture, it’s our work. It is the mission of the School of Agriculture to provide educational programs on both the theory and practice of agricultural science enabling the graduate to compete within and contribute to this diverse field at the producer, industry, and graduate student level. This mission is accomplished through degree options in Agribusiness, Animal Science, Plant and Soil Science, and General Agriculture. |
Mission Statement
The School of Agriculture at the University of Rheinsberg is committed to experiential and pragmatic learning with rigorous educational programs, courses, and experiences enriched by quality instruction. We offer diverse, high quality farm and ranch enterprises that create opportunities for teaching and scholarly activities. We foster positive relationships among our faculty, staff and students and maintain a strong public presence on campus, in the community, and throughout the country and agricutlural industry. Students are prepared to become competent professionals through the sharing and discovery of knowledge across the varied fields of agriculture.
Student Learning Outcomes
A student who graduates from the School of Agriculture should be able to:
- Display knowledge of the local, state, and national agriculture industry and education system.
- Perform critical reasoning, perceive assumptions, and make judgments based on the basic principles of animal science, plant and soil science, and agricultural economics.
- Utilize sound decision-making techniques necessary for solving profitable farm and agribusiness management problems.
- Identify prominent agricultural pests with their associated benefits/damages and the current management practices applied.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills contained within courses for their chosen agriculture degree option.
- Identify and successfully pursue employment opportunities in his/her chosen field of the agriculture industry.

Undergraduate Programs
The field of agriculture includes a very broad range of career objectives. Subject matter fields include plant science, animal science, soil science, horticulture, agricultural engineering, agricultural education, agribusiness management, agribusiness marketing, agricultural economics. Job opportunities are numerous, and students trained in general agriculture are in high demand. A brief list of agricultural positions might include plant breeder, soil scientist, soil conservationist, extension agent, sales representative, agriculture teacher, nursery specialist, landscape designer, greenhouse manager, farmer, nutritionist, animal breeder, economist, forester, processor, food scientist and farm manager. Students with a general interest in agriculture come to the University of Rheinsberg from varied rural and urban experiences. They have a wide range of interests and career objectives for employment in agriculture.
